Nicole Canham and Sarah Kaur will be undertaking final research and creative development of the immersive multimedia performance, Hourglass. Their residency will include collaboration with Mexican artists: composers Rodrigo Sigal and Carlos Lopez Charles, video artist Jose Luis Garcia Nava, and visual artist Ivan Puig. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body, The Australia Latin America Foundation, Punctum Live Arts, NAVA, The Conservatorio de las Rosas and MUAC.
Hourglass is an exciting international artistic collaboration between a team of seven Australian and Mexican artists comprising composers, a performer and multimedia artists. Hourglass is an hour long performance piece that explores the way we experience time. Constructed as a series of moods or events, Hourglass is built on technological exploration that informs thoughtful, aesthetically beautiful and powerful experiences through performance, blurring boundaries between real-time and pre-recorded elements of musical performance and projection. In this space past and present intersect, and the poetry of individual moments are explored through the possibilities and relationships of live performance, new music, new technologies and contemporary installation art.
