Call for Works

For a concert within the Symposium “Electronic Thinking” at the SeaM (Studio for electroacoustic Music), University of Music Franz Liszt and the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany

2.10. - 4.10.2026

Deadline: First of August 2026

Electronic Thinking is a compact platform for music and discourse. It focuses on questions of electronic aesthetics and electronically informed music: Electronic music is media music — it was and is linked to transmission, recording, and playback media, from radio broadcasting to the browser. One of the tasks of the present is to critically examine the influence of media and production tools, while at the same time questioning the categories and patterns of thought they bring with them.

For a concert within the symposium, we are looking for works of electroacoustic music that approach the question of what “electronic thinking” might mean: works in which technology is not merely used as a means, but has direct conseqeuences on the content of the work.

The topic is explicitly not focused on AI. Contributions that work with and about AI are, of course, welcome, provided they meaningfully engage with the central questions. We are, however,  primarily looking for positions that work with other electronic and media constellations.

We invite submissions from the following areas

  • Fixed Media

  • Live Electronics / Mixed Music

  • Performative electroacoustic setups

  • Audiovisual works

  • … as well as other formats and constellations, provided they can be realised in a concert setting.

Submission

Multiple submissions per person are possible. Please submit for each work:

  1. An audio or video link (no time limit, ad-free), including technical details (format, duration, channel count, setup etc).

  2. A short description (max. 2,000 characters): How does the work approach “electronic thinking”?

  3. A short bio (approx. 150–200 words).

  4. Optional: Technical rider, score, documentation (if relevant).

Conditions

The selection of works will be made by the SeaM team on the basis of artistic and, where applicable, practical considerations (feasibility, available technical resources, rehearsal requirements). The decisions are final. Programme changes for organisational or technical reasons may still be made after the selection.

Unfortunately, travel and accommodation costs cannot be covered for the authors of selected works. No prizes, fees, or other payments will be made.

By submitting, applicants confirm that they hold all rights required for the application and, if selected, for performance (including any samples/found footage/texts, etc.), and that the submitted works do not infringe any third-party rights.

As part of the symposium, events will be documented photographically and, where applicable, by audio and video recording (documentation / archive / public communication). Publications related to the symposium may include excerpts of the submitted works in sound and image.

Personal data submitted as part of the application will be processed exclusively for the purpose of the selection procedure and the organisation of the symposium.

By submitting a contribution, participants agree to these conditions.

We kindly ask you to submit your application until the first of August 2026 to electronicthinking@hfm-weimar.de
